ON THE TWENTY EIGHTH DAY OF AUTHORS, MAUREEN GAVE TO ME.........

ONE COPY OF ALLISON PANG'S; A BRUSH OF DARKNESS

AND THE WINNER OF LAURA KAYE'S; NORTH OF NEED

Thanks very much to Laura for coming over to say Hi. Best of luck in the New Year.

The winer of Laura's book, North of Need is Gilly Brough. I will contact, need to know what form of e book you would like. If you don't hear from me pleace contact me at, mjdownfam@comcast.net.

Today's author is Allison Pang. Allison is AWESOME. I am truly amazed by her. When I was working at Borders, her books cover caught my eye. I picked it up and read the back cover, I become more sucked in. I opened to the first page and I laughed out loud and said, I gotta read this. Now you have to understand.... The first paragraph started off with "the book store smelled like cat piss and cabbage". Well a couple of months prior we had a huge flood in my store from the restaurant abouve us. I mean huge and it was dirty water from them power washing there kitchen. We had food on our floor, we lost 1000 books, it was ugly. And no matter what we did our store smelled. Sooooo, I LOVED the begining of this book.

I looked her up, and we began to chat online on FB. I met her in New York this summer and got to hang out with her a little bit. I also went and saw her in Philly at a book signing called AUTHORS AFTER DARK. She is also a great listener and tried to make me smile during the horrendous process of liquidation at my store. I am bowled over at how truly good this book was. This girl is a mom of two small kids and works full time, and kicked out a quality, quality read.

I always have a hard time pigeon wholing a book into one category. I guess you could say its Urban Fantasy. There is romance, I brow beat her because I want the Heroine to be with who I want. Allison just laughs at me.

The man of her dreams might be the cause of her nightmares.

Six months ago, Abby Sinclair was struggling to pick up the pieces of her shattered life. Now, she has an enchanted iPod, a miniature unicorn living in her underwear drawer, and a magical marketplace to manage. But despite her growing knowledge of the OtherWorld, Abby isn’t at all prepared for Brystion, the dark, mysterious, and sexy-as- sin incubus searching for his sister, convinced Abby has the key to the succubus’s whereabouts. Abby has enough problems without having this seductive shape-shifter literally invade her dreams to get information. But when her Faery boss and some of her friends vanish, as well, Abby and Brystion must form an uneasy alliance. As she is sucked deeper and deeper into this perilous world of faeries, angels, and daemons, Abby realizes her life is in as much danger as her heart—and there’s no one she can trust to save her.

I can not tell you how I have been waiting for book 2, A Sliver of Shadow. It is being release in February. If you enjoy paranormal, then this series MUST be added to your pile. I fell in LOVE with the cast of oh so quirky characters. A Brush Of Darkness will make you laugh out loud, and yearn for the oh so HOT BAD Hero, who really is not interested in being said Hero. And at the end when she throws another guy at you, you will have to choose who you are rooting for. Her world building and vivid imagination made me feel like I was standing in that smelly bookstore. I highly recommend her....

So please welcome Allison today. The question today is...... How crazy does it make you when an author does not do what "you" want in a story???? For instance, does not put the "couple" you want together. Or are you the reader who LOVES the angst, or the one who wants them together quicker, so they can be "together" in there journey thru the book????? I have to say, I like a "little" angst but prefer for them to "journey" thru the book together..... LOL, I am a romantic even in my paranormal, urban fantasy reads. Well let the comments commence.... Show my girl some love.....

HAPPY HUMP DAY!!!!!

Yesterday I spent the day at 4 basketball games, today there are 5... UGH!!!

  1. I love angst and I love funny, quite a combination. I like them together on the journey, but as friends who gradually realize there's a little more to it than they'd thought.

  2. There has to be some angst for me. Either between the H/H or something in the story line causing it.

  3. From what I can remember, the only book that had me rooting for a specific guy was the Hunger Games. It was killing me to know who she would end up with. And it wasn't even a romance story. But I do like the "couple" together through the journey, but not yet cemented - with a lot of struggles to overcome and surprises along the way. I even like when they are not totally "good" people. Makes them more realistic.

  4. I love to see the couple go through the story together and work as a team and have triumphs and failures and passion throughout the book and it drives me crazy when the author doesnt put them together at all or not soon enough.

  5. The first book needs angst definitely. The next book can have them working as a team. Eve and Roarke have both in a very long series which amazes me. Cat and Bones manage it too.

  6. I like the together journey. But I like them to have a lot of humor and angst. I tend to like when they are overcoming some tragedy or fighting together to stay alive. But I don't anybody's heart to end up hurt so I don't know how I will like to watch the choosing of one. But I'll try it and see if it works.

  8. It's really not about choosing, it's just another fly in the ointment...... I really liked the dynamics of the book. It's another character that joins the fun, and adds to the angst.... I know who I want. We will see what Allison does.....;)

  12. i like being surprised by my authors.. but i do like them to make the journey together.. depends on the series i guess, in Patricia Briggs' Mercy thompson series for awhile it was a toss up who she was going to end up with.. but she eventually made a decision..
may i say i LOVED this book? i would love to add it to my collection (got it from the library and devoured it in a matter of hours)

  13. I like when they journey together, because I enjoy most the clever banter (well....and electric chemistry). I particularly like when the main characters start off not even liking each other. Allison Pang's book showcased above sound intriguing and I have just purchased on my Kindle Because really, don't we all want a unicorn in our underwear drawer. :)

  15. yes, i fall into the 'angst but journey together' category... even though the wait is sometimes a killer like a certain two characters in bdb... :)

  16. I remember reading a book once where I was so angry the heroine did not get with the guy I wanted.....I was pissed. Lol. Then they gave the guy his own book and I was happy.

  17. As long as they end up with the "right" person in the end, I'm good either way. :)

  18. it really made me crazy as hell and sooo angry and screams soo hard whenan author decided something that looks totally wrong to me. However, after that i realize ehmm this is not my story to tell, so later on i recreate the scenes in my mind and creates the scenes I love. Voila, everyone happy ;). aretha zhen, aretha_zhen@yahoo.com

  20. This one had me at mini unicorn. That's just...well... fantastic!

I'm an easy reader I guess. I like angsty books. I like ones that are more smooth sailing. Very very rarely do I have to put a book down and walk a way for a bit because the author made me a little twitchy.

  21. I have to say JR Ward makes me crazy. I have been dying to see if or when someone will figure out who John Matthew really is....

  22. I put my big girl panties on and suck it up. BAHAHAHAHAHA Actually, if it's an author I love I go with the flow because I know in the next book they will make it up with some goodness. If it's a new author, then I throw the book, feel bad that I threw it, pick it up, then make growling noises:)

I read Allison's short story in Hexed and LOVED it!!
